The Traverse Bag

I purchased the Traverse Bag Pattern from Noodlehead this summer, with the intention of making one to replace my messenger bag, which had seen better days.

I made the small version first with upcycled denim and fabric scraps. The pattern instructions were very easy to follow and it came together quickly.  The only thing I changed was the strap. I decided to use a navy cotton strap, instead of sewing the straps with the accent fabric. I also skipped attaching a snap button, since the fabric I used for the flap was a scrap of outdoor upholstery fabric and was rigid enough to stay down without it.

I used a yellow fabric scrap I had for the interior.

I love how this bag turned out. I used it all summer — Perfect for summer evenings out 🙂

I made the large version for an everyday bag.  I purchased an upholstery fabric and, this time, included the snap. Since I liked how the cotton strap turned out on my first version,  (and let’s face it, it’s quicker 😉 I used the same 2,5cm wide strap in black.

I prefer the first version, because of the fabric.  This fabric is not as rigid, which makes it lose it’s shape when you put things in it, but it is large enough for an everyday bag. My next version will probably be a large upcycled Jean version…

What do you think ?  Have you made a Traverse Bag ?
